About the Award

The Henry Singer Award was established in 1992 by The Canadian Institute of Retailing and Services (CIRAS) to recognize an exceptional leader in the retailing and services sectors. The Award honours the memory of another remarkable individual, the late Henry Singer.

The Henry Singer Award recipient is as committed to building their community as they are to building their business. The recipient possesses the gifts of fairness, humour, empathy, and respect for and acceptance of all people. He shows a deep commitment to family, friends, associates and the community.

In the past, over 500 business leaders came together for the award presentation, keynote address by the recipient, and a networking dinner.

In 2007, three new awards were also presented: Outstanding School of Business Alumni with a Career in the Retailing Sector, Outstanding Researcher with Work in Retailing, and Outstanding Contribution to the Retailing Industry by a Company.

The 18th Annual Henry Singer Awards are taking place on October 6, 2008, in Hall D of the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton commencing at 5:30 PM.

Wynne Powell
President & C.O.O
London Drugs

Wynne's management principles are a major factor in the remarkable success of London Drugs. Starting with London Drugs in 1982, Wynne advanced to the position of Chief Operating Officer by 1995. He quickly embraced the additional role of president two years later and is a driving force behind the customer-centered approach to retailing at London Drugs. In June 2003, he was also awarded Distinguished Canadian Retailer of the Year, a nation-wide honour for outstanding leadership in the business sector.

Wynne's leadership strengths include an uncompromising commitment to London Drugs customers and vendors, active encouragement of creativity and innovation, and a steadfast belief in technological sophistication. Convinced that technology-enabled companies will be the winners in today's rapidly changing marketplace, Wynne has pioneered high-tech advances such as ldhealth.com, ldphotostation.com and ScriptPro robotics at London Drugs.
